Local Child Artists Win Our Chair Design Contest

Dec 06, 2019

Congratulations Shannon Thompson and Lillian Cyr, winners of Our Chair Design Contest!

In Shannon’s colorful chair, the organic wavelike patterns in the center break up the squares and lines of the rest of the chair, reminiscent of a pebble dropped into a pond of pure color.

Lillian’s design is a study of contrast and balance; black and white, straight lines and arabesques— everything in balance for a breathtaking result. We applaud these two young Vermont artists and we’re happy to have had the chance to turn their two-dimensional designs into functional art!

Linda Dilworth, one of our Color Consultants, worked with the folks R.K. Miles to match to the colors from the original designs. Kris Kuebler, an artisan from our LuxDeco decorative painting division, teamed up with Linda to make Shannon and Lillian’s unique designs come to life.

We would like to thank Shannon, Lillian, and all the other contestants who submitted designs. Also, special thanks to R.K. Miles for donating the paint. If you would like to see the other submitted designs, check out the photos on our Facebook page.

Choosing the right color for your exterior or interior space can be challenging. But you don’t have to go it alone.

Did you know that in the state of Vermont you don’t need a contractor’s license to call yourself a professional painting contractor? There’s no state-wide governing body that oversees painters, making sure that every so-called “pro” delivers quality results. If someone wants to become a painter he or she doesn’t need to go to painter’s school. They don’t need a certain number of apprenticeship hours. All they need is a brush, a ladder, and maybe a business card. There are all kinds of painters in Vermont. Maybe they’re college kids trying to make a quick buck on vacation. Maybe they’re a one-man band with an old pick-up and some elbow grease. Maybe they’re a larger outfit with a fleet of trucks. Each of these types of contractors has their place, but if anyone can call themselves pros, what does this word even mean these days? If you need a little more help than just the gutters, we have handyman services at your disposal. Let us help you prepare for the snow. Whether it’s packing up the garden tools, hauling out the sheds and garages, or handling basic weatherization tasks, we have the knowledge and elbow grease you need to get the job done efficiently. And when the snow finally starts accumulating, we would be more than happy to bring over our ladders and assist with cleaning dangerous snow from your roofs (and walkways and anywhere else that needs shoveling). As a painting company, our teams are not only comfy on ladders, but they are meticulous when it comes to making your home beautiful.

In recent years, I have become a bit of a foodie. I’ve nibbled delicious meals from all over the country and if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that plating matters. A recent trip to Nebraska confirmed for me that a little garnish and some drizzled sauce can highlight the visual aspect of a meal and greatly elevate the entire dining experience. But what has this to do with painting? What gourmet chefs and savvy homeowners have in common is the understanding that when appearance matters, a little thoughtful arrangement can have dramatic effects. If we can compare curb appeal to gourmet food plating, we might say that an eye-catching front door color is like a bold sweep of sauce or a striking rosemary garnish. A breathtaking front door can be the very highlight of curb appeal.
